When I first met Miranda Higgins I was immediately drawn in by her amazing and unique style; with her shoulder length curled hair, winged eyeliner, red lips and an oh-so wonderful vintage dress. I had only recently started listening to her music but I was already a big fan. Her voice is one that that'll capture you as a listener and make you feel a connection with the musician by the beauty of her voice. Miranda's music is, as she would describe it, an indie pop/emo genre. Her sound is very relaxed and you can feel the emotions she is pouring into her songs.

I decided to talk to Miranda about her music and her inspirations. Miranda started playing guitar two years ago after her first concert for "Pierce the Veil." She recalled the experience saying, "Just seeing them on stage and being so happy, they just loved what they were doing and it just made me want to know what that felt like." After that she took up playing guitar and later decided to get into singing; She's been singing for two years now. Miranda decided last year to start songwriting after her first breakup and she used this as a coping method to deal with all the emotions she was feeling. Big inspirations for her music music are "Pierce the Veil" and solo artist/former lead singer of  "My Chemical Romance", Gerard Way. "My Chemical Romance" is one of Miranda's favorite bands and a lot of the reason Gerrard is a big inspiration for her is because he went through a low patch but brought himself out of it and became successful as a musician. Lyrically an inspiration for her music is "Flat Sound" or "Front Bottoms", both newer bands and she really likes them because they sing about human nature and the tough experiences we go through and dealing with them.

As a musician she tries to channel emotions like loneliness and just being the best you can be, saying, "...writing what makes people feel." While writing her music, she also likes to use her friends and guitar teacher as a resource to decide if a song she wrote is good or not. Miranda plays the guitar, which you hear a lot in her music, piano a little bit and ukulele, which is becoming more prominent in her songs. She tries not to listen to her own music because she’s afraid that she will listen to it and hear flaws and not like it anymore. She adores performing now and she says had improved a lot because she used to have the worst stage fright.

Currently she is working on a demo with producers. She plans to make her demo as acoustic as possible without a lot of studio editing. But in the meantime, while we wait, I'd encourage you to check out Miranda's soundcloud for her music and her YouTube channel for covers and originals. She plans to do more performing at small shows.

After souhegan she wants to pursue music and hopefully go to the Berkeley School of Music.
