Caitlin's Drive for Victory

We sat down with Caitlin Watson and asked her some important questions: How is the Girls varsity basketball team doing so far this year? Will they win The Ship, The crowned jewel that has evaded them for a long while? Who is the most important player on the team? Caitlin Watson is a Junior here at Souhegan plating for the Varsity girls basketball team. She is a first year varsity player, after previously playing at the JV level. She was gracious enough to allow me to interview her. She answers some of the questions that you may have about the team, but on the idea of winning the championship, she says you’ll just have to wait and see.

The girls basketball team currently sits a record of 4-2 with their only losses coming at the hands of Coe-Brown and their rival Milford. The Milford game was the Tony Game, a game in which we remember Tony Barksdale, an alumni who played Basketball for the boys team and unfortunately passed away.

The loss was an unfortunate one, being a game in which they lost by double digits but now they are just hungry for the next time they get a chance to play Milford: in Milford’s gym where they want revenge. The girls team has had to overcome some adversity this season already after losing one of their senior starters, Kate Heaney, for a while after she suffered a major concussion in a game against Plymouth which was cut short, in which the lady sabers ended up winning by default 34-8. Now in the next games to come, they must all rally around each other and find ways to keep winning and get closer as a unit to make playoffs, and eventually achieve their seasons goal: winning the championship and being forever remembered as a part of the team that led their team to a state title.
